• Student Health And Risk Prevention

    This winter, our district will be collaborating with the Summit County Health Department and the Utah Department of Health and Human Services to administer the Student Health and Risk Prevention (SHARP) Survey to students in grades 6, 8, 10 & 12. The administration of the SHARP survey occurs every other year and this collaboration is a long standing project that our community has participated in for the past decade. The data collected from the survey helps our district and many other Park City groups plan prevention and intervention programs to best serve our students by understanding mental health needs, improving school safety and belonging, combating alcohol and other drug use, and minimizing violence in our schools and communities.

    In order to provide the most meaningful data for our community as possible, we need a high participation rate. The SHARP survey is completely anonymous. Please help support this important research project by completing a Parental Consent Form for your student to participate ASAP. Secondary schools will be administering the survey in early March.

    This Student Health and Risk Prevention (SHARP) data is of vital importance to not only our district but the greater Park City community because it helps local agencies:

    • Determine the needs for our community which helps prevention and behavioral health providers plan services for the upcoming years.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of current prevention and intervention efforts and to make appropriate adjustments.
    • Give youth an opportunity for their experiences and voices to be heard.

    Just a few vital statistics we’ve learned from previous SHARP survey data that have helped inform and drive district prevention and intervention efforts are:

    1. 91% of PCSD students report feeling safe at school (compared to 89% state-wide).
    2. 92% of surveyed students report feeling somewhat or very safe in their neighborhood (compared with 89% state-wide).
    3. As many as 27% of PCSD students report having used vaping products in their lifetime (compared to 15% statewide); as many as 15% in the past 30 days.
    4. 23% report being ‘somewhat’ or ‘very worried’ about being bullied (compared with 24% state-wide)
    5. 81% report thinking it’s ok to seek help and talk to a professional counselor, therapist, or doctor if you’ve been feeling very sad, hopeless, or suicidal (compared to 83% state-wide).
    6.  93% report wearing a seat belt “most of the time” or “Always” when riding in a car driven by someone else.

    Este invierno, nuestro distrito colaborará con el Departamento de Salud del Condado de Summit y el Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos de Utah para administrar la Encuesta de Salud y Prevención de Riesgos Estudiantiles (SHARP, por sus siglas en inglés) a los estudiantes de los grados 6, 8, 10 y 12. La administración de la encuesta SHARP ocurre cada dos años y esta colaboración es un proyecto de larga data en el que nuestra comunidad ha participado durante la última década. Los datos recopilados de la encuesta ayudan a nuestro distrito y a muchos otros grupos de Park City a planificar programas de prevención e intervención para servir mejor a nuestros estudiantes al comprender las necesidades de salud mental, mejorar la seguridad escolar y la pertenencia, combatir problemas como el consumo de alcohol y otras drogas y minimizar la violencia. en nuestras escuelas y comunidades.

     

    Para proporcionar los datos más significativos posibles para nuestra comunidad, necesitamos una alta tasa de participación. La encuesta SHARP es completamente anónima.     Solo algunas estadísticas vitales que hemos aprendido de los datos de encuestas SHARP anteriores que han ayudado a impulsar los esfuerzos de prevención e intervención del distrito son:

    1. El 91% de los estudiantes de PCSD informan sentirse seguros en la escuela (en comparación con el 89% en todo el estado).

    2. El 92% de los estudiantes encuestados reportaron sentirse algo o muy seguros en su vecindario (en comparación con el 89% en todo el estado).

    3. Hasta el 27% de los estudiantes de PCSD informan haber usado productos de vapeo alguna vez en su vida (en comparación con el 15% en todo el estado); hasta un 15% en los últimos 30 días.

    4. El 23% informa estar 'algo' o 'muy preocupado' por ser intimidado (en comparación con el 24% en todo el estado) El

    5. 81% informa que piensa que está bien buscar ayuda y hablar con un consejero profesional, terapeuta o médico si se ha sentido muy triste, sin esperanza o suicida (en comparación con el 83% en todo el estado).

    6.  El 93% informa que usa el cinturón de seguridad "la mayor parte del tiempo" o "siempre" cuando viaja en un automóvil conducido por otra persona.
