Mcpolin Elementary’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) coordinated a local Utah author and illustrator to share their love of drawing and reading with the entire school on March 15, 2023.
Mark and Cara Buehner have authored more than 20 children's books together. Their work has won several awards, including CBC Children’s Choice Award, a Parent’s Choice Award, ALA Notable Book designation, a Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor Award, Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold and Platinum awards, and have been on the NY Times Bestseller list.
During the presentation, Cara read several of their books to the students, and Mark taught the students how a series of drawings could tell a story through art. Cara said their goal is to spark the imaginations of each student.
“It’s always about the kids,” said Cara. “You see their faces, and they’re all from different places, but they're here smiling and having fun in a school that is a safe place for everyone; that’s my favorite part.”
