Park City High School student Griffin Briley took first place at the WÜRTH Modyf ISMF World Championships in Spain.

A PCHS junior, Briley competed in four categories and ultimately won the U18 individual race category for ski mountaineering, which is simply climbing and skiing mountains. He completed the course with a time of 54:44.4; the next closest competitor was a minute and twenty-one seconds behind his pace. 

“I'd like to thank all my teachers, family and friends, and the National Federation for USA Skimo, because they made it all happen,” said Briley. “My teachers are so supportive, and Park City High School is a great place to be.”

Briley has been competing for four years and went on to credit his success to his father, who introduced him to the sport and continues to push him to continue to get better. 

“I'm super thankful for all my support and all the people that have noticed; it's great to have the sport grow in the United States,” said Briley.  

SKIMO will make its debut in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, and one of Briley’s goals is to compete on the debut national team. 

“It takes a lot of hours of training to get to where I am at,” said Briley. “I am going to continue having as much fun as possible with Skimo and with the people I relate to the most.”
